Yellow mellows, brown goes down

One of the best green cleaning tips a friend gave us was to make up a spray bottle of one third strength white vinegar and keep it in the bathrooms and toilets to keep these areas clean and minimilize bacterial odours. We also use a natural orange pump spray for stronger smells. Due to water restrictions, we collect our shower water for the garden and the washing machine grey water drains into a large bucket in the tub and is used on flushing the toilet. During the night we don't flush at all for number ones, we just use one big bucket of grey water to flush in the morning.

Grey water pump
by Coral
(Strathmore, Victoria)
Environmentally friendly ideas - 2 We have saved our backs and thousands of litres of bath/shower water with the purchase of a little pump and some tubing. We fed the tubing under the bed, under the wardrobe and out the window which leads down to our back garden. You cant see the pump when it is not in use, it lives in the bathroom cupboard. It is a small price to pay (the inconvenience of a tubing system running through our bedroom out the window) as before this we were carrying bucket after bucket of grey water down the stairs, spilling it occasionally as well. We now never have to turn on an outside tap for the garden, our grey water covers it completely.
